Clean, healthy air for everyone

(impossible is easy)

Emission Impossible Ltd is a consultancy specialising in advice on harmful air pollutant and greenhouse gas emissions. We are recognised leaders in our field with a reputation for technical excellence and public health protection.

We are specialists in

Transport Emissions

Modelling, projections, scenario setting, policy formulation & guidance. The pointy end of working out what which policy really will reduce emissions now and in the future (and as compared with yesteryear).

Air Quality & Health Advice

All the ways that air pollution kills you! We are best in field at national air quality guidance and translating science into plain English implications for government agencies, industry and people.

 Health Impact Assessment

From national epidemiology to bespoke airshed assessment, we set the benchmark for identifying and quantifying premature mortality and morbidity caused by, and associated with, air pollution in New Zealand.

Independent Experts

We have acted as independent air quality expert witness in the Environment Court and in public Hearings under the Resource Management Act 1991 around the motu (country). We are also accredited decision makers under the RMA and EEZ.

Air Quality Research

Everything from the aerosolisation of harmful algal blooms to investigating social inequity and air pollution in New Zealand.

We work with

Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency

We are (some of) the brains behind the vehicle emissions prediction model. We developed the first robust method of quantifying the health impacts of land use and transport emissions, including the ability to consider the benefits of alternatives. This is now integral to assessing the costs and benefits of air pollution from transport emissions in New Zealand.

ESR

We support ESR with scientific research into the effects of air pollution on health and providing timely and context specific technical advice for health protection officials in New Zealand.

Regional Councils of New Zealand

We have acted as Commissioners making decisions under the Resource Management Act 1991 through delegated authority from regional councils for applications to:

Auckland Council (New Zealand Steel)

Waikato Regional Council (Waste Management (Tirohia) Landfill)

Hawke’s Bay Regional Council (Te Mata Mushrooms)

Ministry for the Environment

We led the multidisciplinary team undertaking the Health and Air Pollution in New Zealand study. We have written national good practice guidance on assessing and managing dust, odour and discharges to air from industry.
